Illamasqua Eyeliner Review

I recently ran out of my usual MAC Gel Eyeliner and I'm glad I did because it finally forced me to try the new Illamasqua one I had been refusing to open for a while. This one's in the shade Infinity and it's the blackest black gel eyeliner I've yet tried! It applies pretty well but I need to get myself a better brush since I lost the last one I had. A good eyeliner brush can make all the difference.

Texture: No surprises here. It's a gel. It's very soft but still has the right amount of firmness to be applied without running. It leans on the dry side which means it dries quickly on the lid and barely smudges compared to all the other gel eyeliners I've tried so far. Gel liners are never as smudge-proof as liquid ones but so much easier to apply so I tend to pick gel over liquid for more elaborate looks.
Removal: It my look dark and smudge-proof but it comes off pretty easily with makeup remover. I've used the neutrogena makeup removing wipes as well as my The Body Shop Camomile makeup remover and they both work well.
Below I've added 2 images. One is in B/W to highlight the eyeliner since I wore a very thin, barely-there line for a natural look. The other is in normal light so that you can see the effect it has.

Illamasqua Gel Liner (Infinity), Brushed through brows, no eyeshadow, no concealer.
I've also begun using the Illamasqua Shadow in Jules for defining my brows but I'll do a detailed review for that in another post.
Cost: £18.50/$28.06/INR1724.50 on the official website. It can possibly be found for less on another website and on sale in different countries. To be honest, I find that quite expensive but with a brand like Illamasqua I wouldn't expect any less. I've wanted to try a product from their collections for so many years now considering they're so well-known and well-love in the makeup-world but their price-tags are what kept me from trying their products for so long.

Final Verdict: If you use eyeliner everyday and it's the one product you would like to invest in, go for it! However, if you would rather spend on something else (like their highlighters which are next on my wish list) then skip it and opt for a drugstore brand instead.

I hope this review helped you pick your next eyeliner or introduced you to the wonderful line of Illamasqua! Let me know what you think in the comments below. Have you tried this product before?

New Skincare Discoveries

A while back I got sent some new skincare products from Mary Kay's new Botanical Effects line to test out and review. It was perfect timing since I'm in India and my oily skin tends to act out in the hot and humid weather here. I thought it would be a real test for these products to help me tackle the oiliness, breakouts and blemishes.
The Botanicals range consists of 4 products that almost make up a complete skincare routine - a face mask, a cleanser, a refreshing toner and a hydrating moisturizer. Each of these products are available in 3 variants depending on whether you have dry, normal or oily skin. I got the range for oily skin. All the products are free from alcohol, fragrance and synthetic dyes.
The mask: The mask claims that it absorbs and controls oil. Since I use this mask along with all the other products too I can't tell if it's the mask in particular that's helping control the oil on my skin but it most probably has a role to play in the overall effects. The tube says it can be used 2-3 times per week but I use it only about 1-2 times per week. My skin definitely feels cleaner and refreshed. It looks hydrated and radiant immediately. I really enjoy using this mask and I even carried it along with me while traveling since it makes for the perfect treat for your skin after a long day outdoors.
The cleanser: This cleanser is great at removing makeup and I use it whenever I'm too lazy to use makeup remover and then cleanse again. It melts off makeup, oil, dust and leaves your skin very clean without making it too dry. I like it but I wouldn't say it's my favorite since it doesn't leave your skin feeling tingling and fresh.
The Freshen Toner: Now it doesn't mention the word "toner" on the bottle but that's what it essentially is. I spray it onto a little piece of cotton and gentle dab/rub it all over my face focusing especially on the areas with blemishes and the Tzone. It removes any last traces of dirt left behind on the skin while calming it and closing up the pores to leave the skin beautifully glowing (and I'm not exaggerating). On several occasions when I've used this toner and stepped out of my room, I've been asked what I did to my skin and what I used because it looks so good.

The Hydrating Moisturizer: I don't really have much to say about this product yet. I haven't used it more than twice and I didn't like it very much those two times. I'm not someone who uses moisturizers except on certain dry spots (and only during winter) so I don't like the feeling of moisturizers on my skin in this hot and humid weather. I might try it out again during winter and let you know what I think about it.

On the whole, I'm really impressed with the three products that I've been using regularly for about a month and a half now and they've really helped keep my skin calm. I still get the occasional breakouts but they're not quite as aggressive and bad as they used to be. I love everything except the moisturizer and I would recommend it to all my readers that have oily/combination skin.

Since I'm thinking of starting a youtube channel, let me know if you would like to see a "best skincare products for oily skin" or a similar video. You can let me know if you would like something like that in the comments below.

The Maleficent x MAC collection

Can you believe that I have no idea what the movie Maleficent is about? Well I know Maleficent is the name of the character played by Angelina Jolie in this movie and that it's based on a Disney story but I don't think I've ever watched the original Disney animation. If I did, I definitely can't remember it. Anyway, the point of saying all of this is that even though I don't know much about Maleficent I still can't wait to watch this movie! Most of this curiosity for the movie is sparked by the posters and how fabulously intriguing Angelina Jolie looks as Maleficent. The horns and makeup are just so perfect. Mac has launched a new makeup collection that puts together the whole makeup look of Maleficent. How amazing is that? Not everybody would be able to roam the streets everyday with the complete Maleficent look (although that would make a wonderful statement in street style wouldn't it? ) but it would be great to tone down the look and use it for events and such.
Products (clockwise from top) : Maleficent #36 Lashes, Maleficent Eyebrows in Fling, Maleficent Nail Lacquer in Nocturnelle, Maleficent Eyeshadowx4 and Maleficent Lipstick in True Love's Kiss.
DuJour also did an interview with the makeup artists that created this look and you can check it out at http://dujour.com/article/maleficent-mac-makeup/43688 They talk all about the 50 pairs of horns they had to make for the movie and other fascinating details about the whole look.

Let me know what you think of this new MAC Collection and also the DuJour article in the comments below. Have I mentioned how much I like reading the comments you guys leave? Because I do! So go ahead and write me something to read.

Dreams of being a makeup artist...The Salon Outlet

I love makeup but I haven't always wanted to be a makeup artist. In fact I still don't really dream of being a makeup artist. However, it's still a profession that is very alluring to me and I wish I could be one! My feelings about it are really weird and confusing because I don't want to do it but also I do. Just a few days ago I read an article about travel makeup cases by a brand called The Salon Outlet. I also went back to their website and looked at all the travel makeup cases they had and it brought back that feeling of aspiring to be a makeup artist that jets around the world with her makeup collection. As a beauty blogger I have quite a bit of makeup but I never do big makeup hauls and usually buy 1 product at a time so I doubt my current makeup collection would even fill up their tiniest makeup case. Despite that, I know many of you guys are beauty bloggers or makeup artists and definitely makeup addicts so I decided to share that post by The Salon Outlet with you guys. It may make you feel the desire to become a makeup artist like it did to me or for those of you who travel with your makeup for a holiday or work may find their makeup cases useful. I personally think that they're amazing storage options for even inside the home since they're portable unlike more drawers and cupboards and they open up beautifully to display your entire collection so that you can use it. Whatever purpose it may serve, here's the article:

Whether your summer plans include hitting the beach, hitting the hottest clubs on the Vegas strip or just getting hit on at the grocery store, everyone’s hoping to look their best during the summer months. The sun is out, everyone’s ready to have some fun after a long winter. And the last thing you want to do is look dull or drab. So, of course, you need to take your entire makeup collection with you on vacation. Because, though you’ve never worn that particular shade of pink lipstick, it might actually go perfectly with your new bikini.

But just how are you going to haul all of those essential items by plane, train or automobile? You could go for a soft, cushioned makeup case. And while it is cushioned, it also has no divided compartments, so your makeup is going to not only get jumbled together, but likely broken. You could go for a roll and tie case. Though this option might be easy to throw into your suitcase, it doesn’t allow you to take much with you. And, like most girls, you’ve got a lot of makeup. You could go with the age old ‘toss it in a plastic baggy’ route. And though, we’ve all had that roommate who stuffs sandwich bags full of lipglosses when it’s time for a road trip, we know that things are just likely to get broken or lost this way.
What you need is not just any makeup case but a train case. A train case is essentially a fold up box with separate compartments for all of your different makeup items. You’ll have a large section in the bottom for bulky bottles and tubes and smaller trays near the top for lipsticks, eye shadows and other small items.
You can find these and many others at The Salon Outlet

Maybelline Cheeky Glow Blush Review

This review is long overdue. I don't know why I spent time on other posts when this post should have been my priority. I got this blush over the winter while I was in India. Maybelline always releases some wonderful products in India and then I have to wait for months before I can visit India and try them out. When I first heard about these blushes I found out that it was released in 3 shades only- Fresh Coral, Peachy Sweetie and Creamy Cinnamon- and I was so sure that I would be buying Fresh Coral and Peachy Sweetie. However, when I swatched them they just looked so similar to all my other pinky-peach blushes (which I love but I needed something different!) and I ended up falling in love with Creamy Cinnamon.
Creamy Cinnamon is the most wearable and natural shade I have ever found...and I mean EVER! It's a very glowy peachy-brown but does not look brown on the skin. This shade is perfect for every skin-tone out in the world. Considering these Cheeky Glow blushes are the most affordable blushes I've ever come across I was shocked at how amazing they are. The packaging isn't very high-end-like but I prefer it like this. They just look so cute and tiny and they're perfect to travel with. I always carry Creamy Cinnamon when I travel because it's a versatile shade and it barely takes up any space in my makeup bag. The formulation, pigmentation and quality is just like a high-end blush if not better. These are really creamy and soft and don't look chalky at all. In fact, they blend in so well on the cheeks! I can't find anything wrong with these. I've read some reviews that criticize Maybelline for not including a tiny brush in the packaging like most brands do but I don't think anyone really uses those and they're a waste of space and materials.

Final Verdict: This has been my favorite blush for months now and it's obsessive. It's inexpensive, great quality and beautiful. I cannot recommend it enough!

Eye Look : Museum day!

I've wanted to publish this post for so long now because I went to the museum about 2 weeks ago and that's when I clicked the pictures. I used one of my favorite BB creams as a base since I didn't want anything too strong and dramatic. However, I felt like experimenting with my eyeshadow palettes and trying a new look. I was so happy with this look that I knew I had to click pictures of it to share it with you guys. After that day, this look has pretty much become my everyday look and I love how versatile it is. The shades blend so well together that I think this look could work for just a casual day or a daytime event too when a smokey eye is too loud.
I started with my Elizabeth Mott Creamy Shadow Stick(Received in ipsy bag) in the inner corner of the eye and over the inner half of the eyelid. It isn't pigmented enough to be a shade on it's own but it works well as a base since it's shimmery and the sparkles show through the shade you apply over the top. I then used a shimmery burnt orange shade over the top and went further out to cover the whole eyelid. This creates a natural gradient since the part of the eyelid with the shadow stick base appears lighter. You can blend it to achieve a better gradient. I then blended the dark plum eyelid shade from my wet n wild eyeshadow trio, that I reviewed here, into the crease (Yup I used an eyelid color for the crease. pretty badass right? Hahaha).  Finally, I used a really light golden color from an old Chanel palette that I hadn't used for ages and used it to highlight the inner corner of the eye and the middle portion of the eyelid (be careful not to cover up the actual shade you used on the eyelid. Just pat enough highlight to add some glitter and dimension.)  A winged eyeliner with my standard MAC Gel Eyeliner and a coat of Revlon Lash Potion (review) completed the look. Update: I don't think I used any mascara at all actually. I think I just didn't want the look to be too over the top for that day but I use that mascara for other days when I don't mind the little extra flutter.

I hope you liked this look. Tell me if you would like to see a complete tutorial for it so that I can add it to my list of videos to do when I finally have the courage to start a youtube channel. If you do try it out, tweet or instagram the picture and link it to me so I can see it. It's just fun to see how the same look adapts to everyone's personal style.

Buzzy Like A Bee...Or Maybe Not...

So this is another Nail update. For some reason I really like doing these. When I actually painted my nails busy-bee-themed I was stuck inside my house with a blizzard outside but now that I'm really getting busy the nail paint has starting chipping off :( ...Anyway I trimmed my nails and everything and then used a plain white nail polish as the base. This one isn't from any particularly good brand and I just picked it up because of the cute and unique shape of the bottle. It doesn't last very long but it has a good enough finish. It was quite inexpensive so I don't regret buying it either because the bottle reminds me of spaceships! Over the top I used Bzzz Bzzz by Starrily. I received this in my tipsy bag and I'm sad that this was a tiny sample size only because it's really great. It has a good density of glitter particles and it's quite viscous and thick so that when you dab and place the glitter in a place it doesn't flow off or move around. The combination of black, yellow and golden glitter is also unlikely and I've never seen it before. You can buy full size Starrily nail polishes from here.

What do you think about this nail update? Don't forget to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, GFC and Bloglovin'. Tell me if you guys like reading these nail updates too! :)

My Christmas Outfit & Makeup.

How long has it been since my last post? Not long I hope. I know it's a little late for christmas outfit posts but I still wanted to share it no matter what time of the year it is. I really love the eye look that I did on Christmas so I did the same one for New Year's Eve too. I think it adds a wonderful glow to the face and looks great with almost every outfit. So it's only appropriate to start with the eye look.

I just used a random eyeshadow palette but I would love to do a tutorial for the look if you would like to see one. I am absolutely obsessed with it. I also used the Revlon Lash Potion mascara and I apologize for the less than good mascara application but I was in a hurry. I also used the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer. Now for the rest of the look.
I used the MAC Frankly Scarlet blush with some Em Cosmetics Lipstick in Violaceous that I reviewed here. I also used the Benefit Hoola bronzer. Oh and how could I forget! I've also used my most recent and favorite purchase- the Pond's BB+ Cream. It makes the skin look just so flawless and it's a shame that I can find it only in India :( I will do a proper review soon. I've also gotten a new haircut since that picture which I'm so excited to share so follow me on Instagram to see it!

For my outfit I chose my lovely Forever 21 white lace dress. Something about white and red just makes me think of christmas. The dress is so adorable and it has a cutout back.

I hope you like this post. What do you think of my look and outfit? Leave me links to your christmas outfit posts or just send me a picture on twitter! I would love to see them all. Don't forget to follow me on Facebook, Bloglovin' , Polyvore, Instagram, GFC & Twitter.

My Christmas Nails - Maybelline ColorShow

It's finally christmas! (Did you notice the christmas count down on my sidebar? I'll miss that little thing after today. ) I absolutely love christmas and mostly because everything around me is bright, sparkly and festive. There are fairy lights and christmas trees everywhere. I always change my nail color and paint them for christmas day so that there aren't any chips. However, while I was at a Maybelline counter recently getting a few backups for staple products and such, I saw the perfect christmas color! I was about to buy a green shade (i don't remember the name of the shade) as the first shade to try from Maybelline's new ColorShow range in India. I'm glad I waited and found this beautiful shade instead. It's   a lovely red with silver sparkles. The sparkles aren't chunky and tacky, nor are they tiny like shimmer...they're just perfect. The cute name 'Velvet Wine' makes me like it even more.

Today I jumped out of bed bright and early to go look at my christmas presents when I saw my cat had found what I got for him. Isn't he just adorable?

I will have another post soon with my complete christmas look. I hope you like this post and let me know what you think of Velvet Wine. Have you tried any of the shades of the Colorshow range in India yet?

Need to Get 'Em All...

Em Cosmetics Sheer Lipsticks I mean...although I would love to get all the pokemons too. Before I begin talking about this amazing lipstick, I would like to apologize for quite a few things. 1. For the lack of posts for so long. I tried to post as often as I could during finals week but then I had to pack my bags and do a lot of other things so I started running out of time to write.  2. Once I had packed those bags I had to travel back home and now I might not find the time to post very often either. I'm back home with my friends and family(including my cat of-course) after 5 long months and I'm so happy! I missed them way too much. So I hope you understand that as much as I love to write for you guys I really might not find much time between my cat showing me all his new hiding places and toys and spending time with friends.

So now for the lipstick. For quite a few months I loved the L'oreal Color Riche Balm and I still do but the Em Cosmetics Sheer Lipstick has replaced it in my spot of favorite sheer lipstick. This is usual with me because I love my sheer balms and lippies and constantly find new favorites. The shade I've been using is 'Violaceous'. It looks like a true violet/purple in the bullet but works out pretty sheer and rosy. The color looks really similar to one of my favorite tinted lip balms- Plum Lip Balm by The Body Shop- so I guess now I know why I'm attracted to it. It isn't as thick and moisturizing as the L'oreal lippie but it is still moisturizing enough. The packaging is not glamorous but it's elegant and I quite like it. It is metallic as opposed to the plastic packaging that most lippies come in and I definitely like the feel of this metallic packaging more. For the lack of time and since my usual phone isn't working I couldn't click any photographs of product itself so I borrowed a few from Google. I might replace them with the pictures that I click eventually.

However, I was able to find the pictures of me wearing this lipstick so that you can have an idea of what it looks like, the color payoff and how sheer it really is.

Overall, I really like this lipstick and I use it almost everyday. I noticed that I love writing posts that have to do with lip products but that's because they're one of my most-used products and I want to share them with you. So let me know in the comments if you would like a Lip Balm collection post ( I think I have quite a good collection) or just a favorite lip balms post. Also, tell me if you like this post and if you think you're going to go get the Em Cosmetics Sheer Lipstick. I use it everyday so I think you might just love it!

Easy Fall EOTD : Fall In Love With Fall

This is probably the easiest Fall eye makeup look you'll come across. do you know why I'm so sure? Because I know that I'm lazy when it comes to putting on makeup early in the morning while I'm in a hurry. I used my Revlon Illuminance Creme Eyeshadow Quad ( Review ) for this look and I didn't even use all the colors. You can use any other creme eyeshadow or powder eyeshadow that's the same color. I just used this one because I love how easy and fast cream eyeshadows can be.

1. Start with a clean eyelid that has been moisturized and prep with an eye primer.

2. I started by using the lightest color in the palette which is a shimmery pinkish-silver. It is a highlight color but I used it all over the lid. You could use any silver shade with pink tones.

3. I was never a huge fan of the darkest color of this palette but recently it's been such a convenience because it can take a look from zero to glam in seconds! I used this dark purpley-brown shade on the outer corners and crease.and blended it into the first light color.

4. You could end the look at step 3 but if you want to go for a more dramatic look layer on the dark color. Then I added a bit of NARS Albatross( Review coming soon!) to highlight the middle portion of the lid. This step just makes the look more dramatic and sultry like a purpley-brown smoky eye (if that exists).

5. Finish up by blending well, curling the lashes and some nice mascara. I've used the Revlon Lash Potion Mascara ( Review ).

Add some blush and a tiny bit of bronzer(optional). I didn't used any lipstick and just used a lip balm from the body shop because I didn't want to distract from the eye look.

PS: Do you notice how you can only see half my face in all the pictures? I put makeup on only one half of my face because I thought of doing a before and after shot. The idea got messed up! Hahaha So I apologize for all the awkward half-face pictures.

I hope you liked this look and if you try it, send me a picture on Twitter or Facebook. Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin' and gfc if you want to read more of these posts.

My Favorite Blushes Right Now

This is kind of a more abstract and real time blogpost than my usual posts but i thought "Im supposed to be telling people what I like so why not tell them which my go-to-blushes are and then they can go try them out as well and get obsessed with those blushes. Then we can all share our obsession with blushes and have a happy blushing time :p ". Yes, i ramble on and on about random things like this in my head. New readers may not know this but I am very pale, hence blushes are like my best friends that add color to my face. Now about the blushes i have been obsessing over for about a month now:
Spring Flower and Posietint
  1. Posietint by Benefit :(Haul post) Described as a "poppy-pink" shade, I do like it much more than Benetint (which is more rose-tinted). It's the perfect shade to wear everyday and looks especially great on days when you don't feel like using any foundation because it blends right into your skin. Posietint adds a subtle glowy element to the whole look. However, when I tried using it over foundation, it led a patchy, streaky look. It's a staple for days when i don't have the time to put on much makeup (like foundation, concealer, bronzer,etc.). he only bad side to this product is that it leaves a stubborn stain on the fingers that you may use to blend it in :( . Now I couldn't click a picture of myself with Posietint on because its so light and natural that it just wouldn't show up in pictures!
  2. Spring Flower by Rimmel London : This is a simple and straight forward pink.  No coral tones, No orange tones and No Plum tones - none of that fuss in this one. It does have a bit of shimmer but the shimmer is so subtle that you can use it as a daily blush and nobody will notice it. It's too pink to use as a Fall shade which makes me use it even more while i still can! Go get it and try it before its time to use those plum shades!

LOTD : Products from the Thai Haul.

To follow up after my last post, I thought I should do a look with as many of the products from the Thailand Haul as I can. This being my first ever LOTD I decided not to get very creative...don't worry I will get creative with my next LOTD post. This look is very basic and pretty fast and simple to recreate.

Face : I used my usual foundation since I hadn't bought any foundation fromThailand. A light touch of Hoola Bronzer by Benefit. Frankly Scarlet by MAC. A few drops of Highbeam by Benefit for a highlight on the cheekbones. Rimmel London's Stay Matte Powder in Mohair (I always use a powder that is a few shades darker than my skin tone in order to avoid a cakey effect)

Lips : I used my Benetint lip and cheek stain to lightly stain the lips. The color can easily be built to create a deeper red hue. I have grown quite fond of this product and found it more efficient as a lip stain rather than a cheek stain.

Eyes : I used only one eyeshadow for this look since I had bought only one eyeshadow from Thailand but it still looked like a complete look due to the beautiful color. This is the little local brand eyeshadow pot. The eyeliner is my old and trusted Mac gel eyeliner with a wingtip. Since I was already planning on doing a detailed review of the Sweet Princess Limited Edition Mascara, I didn't use any mascara here in order to avoid repetition.

Hope you like this look. You can recreate it using the same or similar products. If you do recreate it, let me know in the comments below and send me a picture on twitter using #thesecretlife_recreate .

The Makeup Wishlist

Shopaholic, makeup addict, beauty lover, fashionista....whatever we all may call ourselves, we all have a wish list. So I've decided to start a series of posts that include my various types of wish lists. Here's my first list of the makeup products I can't wait to get my hands on.

1. Rimmel's Wake Me Up Foundation : honestly, who hasn't heard about this product! I first heard of this foundation from the countless mentions it receives in the videos of Fleurdeforce and Tanya Burr. Rimmel has completely won me over from the very first product I tried.

2. Dior Amber Diamond Highlighter : it's sparkly...it's pretty...it's got that wonderful gradient of colors that you can swirl your brush in and mix and have fun with....it apparently suits every skin tone...basically, it's the perfect highlighter!

3. Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick : to be fair this product was released a long time ago but I still haven't tried it. I like it for all the same reasons that I like the Dior Amber Diamond Highlighter. There are so many different shades of this shimmer brick and I just wish I could have them all.

4. Sleek Blush in Sweet Cheeks : this pallet is just so cute! The colors are beautiful and as always with sleek I guess the quality, pigmentation and texture is going to be amazing too! What makes this product hard to find is the fact that Sleek is sold only in UK.

5. Real Techniques Brushes : I cannot even count the number of times I've heard/read about these miraculous brushes. This is one wish list item that I am definitely going to get my hands on no matter what!

6. Bronzer : this is a different one. There's no particular bronzer that I have on my mind but I just neeeeeeeed a new one. I have been using my Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess bronzing powder and my Miners Bronzing Stick for a really long time now and I'm bored of them. Tell me which bronzer I should try next in the comments.

7.  Cle De Peau Concealer : I heard about this concealer from the videos of another makeup genius Elle Fowler (allthatglitters21). This is a pricey product and I have no idea where I can find it but I will look for it online and in stores.

8. Barry M Hi-Shine Gelly Nail Paint : they look like gel nail paint...they have a beautiful range of colors...and they have a wonderful shiny finish!

9. Estée Lauder Gelee Blush in Tease : this blush has a unique texture and adds a beautiful glow to your complexion. The packaging is too beautiful to resist.

These are all the things I can think of off the top of my head. I've wanted these products for so long and I hope I can find them all. Now that I have hopefully given you a few suggestions to add to your wish list along with a craving to go splurge on some make up, share this post so that we can spread our love for makeup and don't forget to comment because I would love to know what you think!
